Vol. 482 No. 1

Written Answers. - Tourist Information Network.

Brendan Howlin

Question:

14 Mr. Howlin asked the Minister for Tourism, Sport and Recreation if he will give details of the current position on the national tourist information network; the expenditure for 1997 in this regard; the number of new offices opened in 1997; the number of visitors to the network and if he will make a statement on the matter. [17295/97]

The funding and operation of the national network of tourist information offices are operational matters for Bord Fáilte and the regional tourism authorities, which were established as limited companies by Bord Fáilte under section 5 of the Tourist Traffic Act, 1952, to, inter alia, operate a tourism information network. I have no direct function in the conduct of their business.
