Vol. 482 No. 1

Written Answers. - Transport Strategy.

Question:

76 Mr. Hayes asked the Minister for Public Enterprise if she has examined the LINK plan; the action, if any, she intends to take to implement this plan; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [17462/97]

The LINK plan contains similar elements to the strategy recommended in the final report of the Dublin Transportation Initiative (DTI) but also major differences, particularly in relation to rail transport.

The DTI strategy, which was developed over almost four years of detailed work, including widespread consultation and analysis of options, provides the general policy framework for the development of the transport system in the greater Dublin area.

I am committed to ensuring, subject to appropriate evaluation and approval procedures, that the DTI strategy is implemented in respect of public transport in Dublin. To this extent elements of the LINK proposals will be introduced where they are consistent with that strategy.
