84 Mr. Sargent asked the Minister for Agriculture and Food if he supports the Governments of Austria, Luxembourg and Italy in their battle with the EU Commission to preserve the right to prevent the planting of genetically engineered crops in their countries in view of the fact that this is a precedent case which will affect the rights and protection of Irish farmers in the near future. 85 Mr. Sargent asked the Minister for Agriculture and Food if he will consider a moratorium on the import of genetically engineered crops for food and ingredients in view of scientific doubts about the effects on the environment of genetic engineering. [17429/97]
