Vol. 482 No. 1

Other Questions. - Tourism Logo.

Emmet Stagg

Question:

7 Mr. Stagg asked the Minister for Tourism, Sport and Recreation the consultation, if any, there was with the Northern Ireland Tourist Board before the introduction of the latest tourism logo; the views, if any, the Northern authorities communicated to him, his Department or Bord Fáilte in this regard; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [17279/97]

Jack Wall

Question:

50 Mr. Wall asked the Minister for Tourism, Sport and Recreation the expenditure related to the logo abandoned by Bord Fáilte; and the cost of the new replacement including design cost, publicity and printing costs. [17286/97]

Pat Rabbitte

Question:

60 Mr. Rabbitte asked the Minister for Tourism, Sport and Recreation the reason he intervened with Bord Fáilte to have the new logo for the joint tourism marketing project, Tourism Brand Ireland, changed; his views on whether it is appropriate that a Minister should be involved in such a matter; the consultation, if any, he had with his counterpart in Northern Ireland before intervening; if his attention has been drawn to the strong criticism of his action expressed in Northern Ireland; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [17183/97]

I propose to take Questions Nos. 7, 50 and 60 together.

In deference to Deputies Stagg, Wall and Rabbitte who tabled these questions, I gave a lengthy answer to this issue in answering Questions Nos. 1 and 2.

The total cost associated with the new design formulation is a matter for Bord Fáilte and will be met from its resources. Given my wish to minimise costs, the new formulation will be phased in for Bord Fáilte's promotional and publicity material for the 1998 season. Existing printed material carrying the original design will continue to be used until stocks are exhausted.
