Adjournment Debate Matters.

I wish to advise the House of the following matters in respect of which notice has been given under Standing Order 21 and the name of the Member in each case: (1) Deputy Healy-Rae — the need to give derogation from the licensing regulations to the small dumping sites at Killarney, Milltown, Kenmare and Cahirciveen; (2) Deputy Lawlor — the proposals for a £27 million educational complex at Blanchardstown, Dublin 15, put forward by the National College of Industrial Relations being planned by the Higher Education Authority in the context of the urgent need for a site to accommodate the Blanchardstown Regional Technical College project already sanctioned; (3) Deputy Broughan — the need to amend the legislation in relation to special amenity area orders; (4) Deputies Penrose and McGrath — the drainage works undertaken recently in the Rathowen area, County Westmeath and the effect it will have on Lough Glen and surrounding wetlands; (5) Deputy Rabbitte — the need to take steps to regulate bonfires over the Halloween period; (6) Deputy Noel Ahern — the assistance offered or available to teachers in community schools who take a year off to secure further qualifications; (7) Deputy Yates — the severe trade and haulage losses arising from the transport dispute in France and the steps being taken with the French authorities and at European Union level to ensure effective mediation and compensation; (8) Deputy Browne (Carlow-Kilkenny)— the need to highlight the fact that 18 year olds are allowed to vote independently of their parents but are not treated as independent people with regard to unemployment assistance, summer job schemes, etc.; (9) Deputy Neville — the need to respond to the survey results of the Association of Secondary Teachers of Ireland which found that one in eight post primary schools has had at least one student who committed suicide and that adequate school psychological services be introduced; (10) Deputy Richard Bruton — the capacity of the schools to cope with the growing incidence of suicide among second level students; (11) Deputy Owen — the urgent need to retain a teacher in John Paul II national school, Malahide, who has been in situ since beginning of September 1997; (12) Deputy Stagg — the effect of the French truckers' blockade on Irish exports and employment in Ireland; and (13) Deputy Gormley — the dissemination of information by the Government on the referendum on Cabinet confidentiality.

The matters raised by Deputies Gormley, Broughan, Browne (Carlow-Kilkenny) and Richard Bruton have been selected for discussion.
