Vol. 482 No. 3

Written Answers. - Rights of Disabled.

Theresa Ahearn

Question:

259 Mrs. T. Ahearn asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government the three priority areas for action in his Department for 1998 in view of the Government's commitment in An Action Programme for the Millennium, page 18, People with Disabilities; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [17930/97]

An interdepartmental task force, under the aegis of the Department of Justice, Equality and Law Reform, is developing a detailed plan of action based on the recommendations of the report of the Commission on the Status of People with Disabilities. The priority areas for action in my Department in 1998 will be determined as soon as this action plan has been completed and approved by Government. A number of the recommendations of the report have already been implemented in full or in part. My Department will continue the process of implementation in so far as this can be done in advance of the interdepartmental task force's report.
