374 Mr. Currie asked the Minister for Education and Science the minimum specifications, if any, his Department has regarding the size of physical education halls in schools; if so, if he will give details in this regard; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [17824/97]

The size of a PE hall provided by my Department depends on the level of enrolment of the school where the facility is located.

The following table gives the area in square metres of PE halls for the various levels of enrolment. The area includes the hall, ancillary accommodation such as changing areas, toilets, and storage.

Up to 350 Pupils

240 square metres

350 to 499 students

440 square metres

500 plus students

497 square metres
