Vol. 482 No. 3

Written Answers. - Operational Programme for Tourism.

Bernard Allen

Question:

70 Mr. Allen asked the Minister for the Marine and Natural Resources if he will make a statement on the counter-productive marketing strategy in the case of angling, as pointed out in the mid-term evaluation of the Operational Programme for Tourism. [17710/97]

One of the recommendations of Fitzpatrick Associates, the economic consultants engaged by the monitoring committee in February 1996 to undertake the mid-term evaluation of the Operational Programme for Tourism, was that a small amount of money be transferred from the tourism angling measure of the programme to the marketing sub-programme.

It is intended, however, that all issues relating to the mid-term review of the programme will be dealt with by the tourism monitoring committee at its meeting which is due to be held later this week.

Therefore, I would like to await the outcome of the deliberations of the monitoring committee which will discuss this issue at its meeting on Thursday next, before commenting further on the matter.
