Vol. 482 No. 3

Written Answers. - Fisheries Purchase Option.

John Perry

Question:

73 Mr. Perry asked the Minister for the Marine and Natural Resources the current position in relation to the North Western Fisheries Board's option to purchase property (details supplied) in County Sligo under the compulsory act section 39 of the Fisheries Act, in order to give access to fishermen to fish Lough Arrow, County Sligo; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [17629/97]

Under the provisions of section 39 (1) of the Fisheries Act, 1980, a regional fisheries board may apply to the Minister for an order effecting the compulsory acquisition of a right of way by a particular route over any land.

To date, I have not received any such request from the North Western Regional Fisheries Board, which is responsible for the conservation, protection and development of fisheries in the north western region, in respect of access to Louth Arrow at the property referred to by the Deputy.

I can advise that the board is actively examining the question of access to Lough Arrow with a view to resolving the current difficulties.
