Vol. 482 No. 4

Written Answers - Defence Forces Vote.

Ruairí Quinn

Question:

33 Mr. Quinn asked the Minister for Defence the outturn of the Defence Vote and the Army Pensions Vote in 1997 for the administrative budget including civil service pay and allowances, the Defence and Reserve Forces pay and mechanical transport, aircraft, ships and naval stores, buildings and lands, other non-pay military expenditure, Civil Defence, the Irish Red Cross, Coiste an Asgard, the sail training scheme and appropriations-in-aid. [18216/97]

The position is that expenditure on the Defence and Army Pension Votes for 1997 is being closely monitored but it is too early at this stage to make a definitive assessment as to the final outturn on the various subheads referred to in the Deputy's question. However, it is likely that a supplementary estimate will be required on the Defence Vote, Vote 36, to meet the cost of loss of hearing claims from members and former members of the Defence Forces. The relevant subhead is AA.

The Deputy will receive full details if, and when, a supplementary estimate is submitted to the Dáil for approval.
