258 Mr. Connaughton asked the Minister for Agriculture and Food the total number of area aid applications from farmers to his Department in 1997; the number of cases that have been fully digitised to date in 1997 under the various different schemes; and if he will give details of the timeframe to have all applications digitised. The total number of area aid applications received from farmers in 1997 is 134,225.

In all, some 48,677 of the 1997 applications had maps enclosed of which 26,482 have been fully digitised to date. At the present rate of progress, it is anticipated that digitising of the remainder of these cases will be completed by mid-December.
