Vol. 482 No. 6

Written Answers. - Schools Building Projects.

Phil Hogan

Question:

452 Mr. Hogan asked the Minister for Education and Science if his Department has received an application from a school (details supplied) in County Kilkenny for the provision of a sports hall; if he will sanction capital assistance for this project; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [18826/97]

An application has been received by my Department for funding towards the provision of a sports hall for the school in question. The question of providing physical education facilities at this school can only be considered in the context of the capital available for port-primary building purposed generally. Because of the huge demand for additional classroom accommodation in schools throughout the country, I am not in a position at this stage to state when physical education facilities will be provided in this particular case. However, should financial circumstances permit, the school will be given every consideration.
