Vol. 482 No. 7

Adjournment Debate Matters.

I wish to advise the House of the following matters in respect of which notice has been given under Standing Order 21 and the name of the Member in each case: (1) Deputy Neville — the extension of urban renewal scheme to Rathkeale, County Limerick; (2) Deputy Sargent — the powers given to the Irish Medicines Board who have sent numerous letters to complementary health practitioners over the past six months following legislation which prescribes vitamins, minerals and herbs as legal medicines and which prohibits retailers from providing their customers with medical tips and preventive health care information; (3) Deputy Hayes — the democratic deficit in the administrative area of South Dublin County Council, given the information contained in the 1996 census and the need for steps to be taken to increase the number of public representatives on this council; (4) Deputy McGennis — the progress being made on the implementation of the Control of Horses Act, 1996 and the need to put reporting procedures in place between the Department of Agriculture and Food and the local authorities on the implementation of the Act; (5) Deputy Connaughton — the continuing hostilities in Sri Lanka and the importance of the Irish Government volunteering in mediation to prevent further human rights violations and unwanted death of innocent civilians; (6) Deputy Brendan Smith — the need to advance the new fire station project at Dowra, County Cavan to tender stage; (7) Deputy Keaveney — the public concern, from a health viewpoint, following the siting of a mobile phone mast in a highly residential area in Moville, County Donegal; (8) Deputy Gerard Reynolds — the reason European Union Structural Funds which have been provided for the Dublin-Sligo rail line are been expended on only part of the line from Dublin to Mullingar; (9) Deputy Finucane — the need to expedite construction on Gaelscoil Ó Dhubhair, Caisleán Nua, Contae Luimnigh and the date on which construction will commence; (10) Deputy Dinny McGinley — the need to allocate funding so that the proposed nursing unit in Killybegs is allowed to go to tender.

The matters raised by Deputies Sargent, Keaveney, Neville and Hayes have been selected for discussion.
