Vol. 483 No. 1

Written Answers. - Ministerial Appointments.

Trevor Sargent

Question:

194 Mr. Sargent asked the Minister for Social, Community and Family Affairs if he will supply a listing of all those who have been appointed by him to serve or to represent on the boards of Government agencies, semi-State bodies or other Government linked bodies, and the terms of office of those appointed in this regard. [19730/97]

The statutory agencies operating under the aegis of my Department are the Combat Poverty Agency, the Pensions Board and the National Social Service Board.

No appointments were made by me to the Pensions Board or the National Social Service Board since I became Minister. The Pensions Board is appointed for a period of five years, up until 20 December 2000. The National Social Service Board is appointed for a three year period and its membership will fall to be reviewed in September 1998.

Under the terms of the Combat Poverty Agency Act, 1986, the number of members of the board of the agency, at any one time, shall not be less than eight and not more than 16. I have made three appointments to the board of the Combat Poverty Agency for a three year period, from the 5 November 1997 to the 4 November 2000, which brings the total current membership to 16. The appointments are as follows: Sr. Stanislaus Kennedy, Mr. Pearse O'Hanrahan, Mr. Frank Mulcahy.
