Vol. 483 No. 1

Written Answers. - Social Welfare Benefits.

Liam Aylward

Question:

199 Mr. Aylward asked the Minister for Social, Community and Family Affairs if he will revise the regulation governing payment of unemployment assistance to persons who are paid the sum of £2 per day under the home help scheme and who currently must sign off for the day they work as a home help which reduces their social welfare payment considerably. [19939/97]

I am conscious of the difficulties facing people who are engaged in employment under the home help scheme in so far as it affects entitlement to unemployment assistance and I have asked my Department to examine the issues involved. Since my proposals in this regard will have cost implications, they will require to be considered in a budgetary context.
