Vol. 483 No. 1

Written Answers. - Schools Building Projects.

Breeda Moynihan-Cronin

Question:

225 Mrs. B. Moynihan-Cronin asked the Minister for Education and Science the progress, if any, which has been made regarding the provision of a new school in Rathmore, County Kerry to replace the existing boy's national school; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [19920/97]

The management of Rathmore boys' national school advised my Department that the County Kerry Vocational Education Committee had indicated willingness to make the old vocational school in Rathmore available for primary school use. My Department's architect inspected this premises during the summer and discussed the matter with the chairman of the board of management. Refurbishment of this premises represents only one of a number of possible options which require to be considered. In this context, my Department's planning and building unit is currently examining the long-term educational requirements at primary level in Rathmore. My Department will be in touch with the school management in the matter.
