Vol. 483 No. 1

Written Answers. - Central Information Technology Service.

Jack Wall

Question:

66 Mr. Wall asked the Minister for Finance if he will give details of the new central information technology service or services he will utilise with the additional £973,000 which he has provided for in the Estimates; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [19705/97]

The additional moneys in my Estimate for central information technology services are for the provision of a new personnel administration system, to support the changes in personnel management now planned for the Civil Service, as a result of the Strategic Management Initiative. A decision on the system to be purchased has not yet been made. It is anticipated that the total cost for the Civil Service will be of the order of £3 million. As the new system will be designed as a standard system for use by all Departments, it is proposed to fund a significant element of the development cost centrally. To meet this central cost, I have made a provision of £1.1 million in my Department's Vote for 1998.
