Since taking office as Minister for the Marine and Natural Resources, I have made the following appointments to boards:

Mr. Thomas Linehan
Mr. Eamon McAteer

The appointees are employee directors appointed on foot of elections held in accordance with the Harbour Act, 1996. These appointments are for a five year term.
Shannon Regional Fisheries Board with effect from 16 July 1997.
Mr. Gerry Gough.
This appointment is valid until the day on which the results of the next election to membership of the board is declared.
I should add that on the basis of offers of appointments made by my predecessor, the formalities of the appointment of Mr. Frank O'Donnell and Mr. Declan Turnbull as members of the North Western and Northern Regional Fisheries Boards respectively were completed since I took office.
The Mining Board
Mr. Iarfhlaidh O'Neill SC was appointed as Chairman, while Mr. Seán McDermott and Mr. John Shackelton were reappointed to the board. The terms of offices are for three years commencing 4 September 1997.
These appointments were made under the Mineral Development Acts, 1940 to 1995.
