29 Mr. Quinn asked the Minister for Health and Children when he will receive a report from the board of the VHI in relation to possible restructuring of the VHI; and if he will publish this report in order to facilitate public discussion of this important issue. [19847/97]

The VHI board is currently giving consideration to the area of corporate structure and strategic alliance in the context of the developing competitive market. I understand that the board hopes to be ready to elaborate its position on these matters for me in the new year.

It is not established practice to publish details of proposals made by the board for consideration by the Minister for Health and Children. However, any change in the board's status would require legislation which would be the subject of prior consideration and debate by the Houses of the Oireachtas.
