Question:94 Cecilia Keaveney asked the Minister for the Marine and Natural Resources the current situation in relation to the issuing of a licence to a boat (details supplied) in County Donegal. [19995/97]
Written Answers. - Fishing Licences.
All vessels engaged in commercial sea fishing are required to be licensed and registered. The vessel in question does not have a licence and is not entered on the current sea fishing boat register. A special scheme was developed in 1994 to regularise the position of a substantial number of mainly small vessels which had been in the fleet since 1984, but which for various reasons had not been formally licensed or registered. The person to whom the Deputy's question relates has applied for a sea fishing boat licence under this scheme.
Following Euroepan Commission approval of the scheme, issuing of licences decisions will commence whortly. I expect that the person in question will receive a decision within a matter of weeks.
