Vol. 483 No. 3

Written Answers. - Action Against Tobacco Companies.

Seán Haughey

Question:

202 Mr. Haughey asked the Minister for Health and Children if he will give financial assistance to those involved in a legal action against the tobacco companies for the damage caused to their health; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [20169/97]

Any decision on this matter will entail careful assessment of the strategy to be pursued. I have therefore set up a group representative of the administrative, medical and legal professions within the health service to advise me on the question of legal action against the tobacco industry. Following this I will then consult with the Government on the matter.
