Vol. 483 No. 3

Written Answers. - Social Welfare Appeals.

Michael Ferris

Question:

315 Mr. Ferris asked the Minister for Social, Community and Family Affairs if an application for disability allowance which is with the appeals office from a person (details supplied) in County Tipperary has been dealt with. [20449/97]

The person concerned applied for disability allowance and, based on a report by a medical assessor of my Department, she does not satisfy the medical criteria for receipt of the allowance. She has appealed this decision and will be re-examined by a different medical assessor on 4 December 1997, following which the case will be considered by an appeals officer.

The husband in this case is in receipt of retirement pension, including an increase in respect of his wife. Should she qualify for disability allowance the rate of retirement pension payable to him would fall to be adjusted accordingly.
