Vol. 483 No. 3

Written Answers. - Harbour Development.

Brendan Howlin

Question:

101 Mr. Howlin asked the Minister for the Marine and Natural Resources when his Department will arrange the provision of a turning circle to facilitate a suitable turn for vessels into the harbour at Kilmore Quay; the removal of the sugar rocks to the east of the approach channel and the completion of the channel to a width of 60 metres and an adequate depth; the securing of the land west of the harbour and the prevention of depositing at the harbour entrance, and the installation of service points, electrical power points, set down area and so on for this harbour; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [20202/97]

My Department is currently assessing the nature and scale of additional dredging works at Kilmore Quay required in order to alleviate difficulties currently being experienced by certain vessels entering the harbour.

The installation of power points is currently under way and it is expected that this work will be completed shortly. With regard to the securing of land at the rear of the west pier, I am advised that Wexford County Council is putting the necessary rock armour in place this year.
