Payments are continuing to issue to farmers under all premium and headage schemes.

While the requirements of the land parcel identification system which is fully operational in 1997 under EU rules have been a complicating factor in processing the various premium and headage applications this year, it is expected that most remaining payments will be made in the very near future.

Question:

156 Mr. Creed asked the Minister for Agriculture and Food if a 1997 area aid payment to a person (details supplied) in County Cork is correct in view of the fact that the applicant applied on 28.24 hectares. [20288/97]

The person concerned applied for 1997 suckler cow premium on 16 cows and 1997 special beef premium on four male animals both of which require a valid 1997 area aid application. The forage area declared by the person named was initially recorded incorrectly as he did not complete his 1997 area aid form in full. The result of this was that his 1997 suckler cow premium grants were stocking density restricted to 11.14 cows. He was paid £937.29 on 5 November 1997.

The correct acreage has since been recorded for the person named and he will be paid the balance of his advance within a week.

The person named submitted a ten month application for three animals and a 22 month application for one animal under the 1997 special beef premium scheme on 28 October 1997. Payments on the animals involved cannot be made until after expiry of the retention period and subject to the applications being found to be in order.

Matt Brennan

Question:

157 Mr. M. Brennan asked the Minister for Agriculture and Food when ewe premium and sheep headage will be paid to a person (details supplied) in County Sligo. [20289/97]

There is no record of receiving an area aid application from this herd owner.

However, if the herd owner can supply some documentary evidence of having sent the application prior to the closing date for receipt of applications i.e. postal certificate his case will then be considered.
