Vol. 483 No. 4

Written Answers. - Higher Education Grants.

Paul Bradford

Question:

145 Mr. Bradford asked the Minister for Education and Science the reason a person (details supplied) in County Cork is being denied a higher education grant for a post-graduate course on the basis that she already holds a post-graduate qualification in view of the fact that the particular qualification is not recognised by his Department; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [20725/97]

Under the terms of the higher education grants scheme grants are not payable to candidates who already hold a post-graduate qualification and and who are pursuing a second post-graduate course. This condition is of general application, applying to all post-graduate qualifications irrespective of whether my Department recognises the qualification for teaching purposes. As the student in question already holds a post-graduate qualification, she is therefore ineligible to receive a higher education grant in respect of her further post-graduate study.
