Vol. 483 No. 4

Written Answers. - Grant Payments.

John McGuinness

Question:

108 Mr. McGuinness asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government if he will increase the grants or finance available for the provision of facilities to enable old age pensioners and the disabled to live out their lives in their own homes; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [20676/97]

I am, in the context of the Government's Action Programme for the Millennium, examining what options are available for a targeted house improvement grants scheme for low income households having regard to the range of measures currently available and the likely cost implications. The disabled persons and essential repairs grants schemes are among the areas being examined in this context. I will also provide an appropriate level of funding to ensure that the task force on special housing aid for the elderly continues to improve the housing conditions of elderly people.
