Question:

160 Mr. Durkan asked the Minister for Education and Science the extent, if any, to which officials of his Department have consulted teachers and parents' representatives at St. Wolstan's Holy Faith school, Celbridge, County Kildare, in relation to the proposed new post-primary school for the area; the degree to which his officials have accepted advice from the parents and school authorities; his views on whether these discussions will impact positively on the need for immediate implementation of the school's development programme; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [20893/97.

Stage two of the architectural planning for the new school in Celbridge has been completed and approved by my Department and the design team is now preparing the next stage which is detailed design. An application for planning permission has also been made to Kildare County Council. Officials of my Department have had ongoing discussions with the school authorities about various aspects of the project and a number of meetings have taken place. It is intended that this process will continue.
