Vol. 483 No. 5

Written Answers. - Blasket Island Development.

Jimmy Deenihan

Question:

19 Mr. Deenihan asked the Minister for Arts, Heritage, Gaeltacht and the Islands the current position regarding the provision of landing facilities on the Blasket Island and on the mainland at Dún Chaoin, County Kerry; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [20637/97]

The provision of landing and other facilities to service the Great Blasket Island — An Blascaod Mór — is dependent on An Blascaod Mór, National Historic Park Act, 1989. The Deputy will be aware that the constitutionality of that Act has been challenged in the High Court and, pending a decision on the case, it would not be proper for my Department to take action on the implementation of the provisions contained in the Act, whether on the island itself or at Dún Chaoin or the mainland.
