Vol. 483 No. 6

Written Answers. - Refugee Status.

Derek McDowell

Question:

39 Mr. McDowell asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform if his Department will deal urgently with an application for refugee status from a person (details supplied). [20965/97]

It is not the practice to comment publicly on individual applications for refugee status having regard to the fact that applications by their nature are made in confidence with an expectation by the applicant that such confidence will be preserved.

However, I can confirm that the person in question has made an application for refugee status and that the application is under consideration at present. I expect that a decision on the application will be made in the near future.
