Written Answers. - Grant Payments.

Michael Finucane

Question:

177 Mr. Finucane asked the Minister for Agriculture and Food the current status regarding an application for installation grant by a person (details supplied) in County Leitrim. [21051/97]

The application was lodged in the Department on 21 January 1997. However, as the applicant was set up on his farm in late 1996, it is not possible to assess the labour input on the farm until the end of the first full production year, 1997.

Breeda Moynihan-Cronin

Question:

178 Mrs. B. Moynihan-Cronin asked the Minister for Agriculture and Food the reason for the delay in payment of cattle headage and suckler premium to a person (details supplied) in County Kerry; and if he will give an assurance that her grants will be paid before Christmas 1997 in view of the fact that she is a widow depending on these payments. [21052/97]

The persons named will be paid their suckler cow premium and cattle headage schemes grants within the next two weeks. The delay in payment in this case arose because of the listing of an incorrect tag number on the suckler cow premium scheme application submitted by the persons named.

Breeda Moynihan-Cronin

Question:

179 Mrs. B. Moynihan-Cronin asked the Minister for Agriculture and Food the reason a 1996 intensification grant paid to a person (details supplied) in County Kerry was reduced by £109. [21053/97]

The person named applied on ten beef cows under the 1996 cattle headage scheme and was paid £779.45 on 27 September 1996 which was based on 8.698 hectares of forage area. Subsequently, the area aid details of the person named were updated, recording 6.69 hectares. This area entitled the person named to £599.55 under the 1996 cattle headage scheme. Consequently, there was an overpayment of £179.90 which my Department recovered by deducting £109.90 from the 1996 extensification amount and by deducting £70 from the agrimonetary compensation scheme payment on suckler cows due to the person named.

On the basis of the most recent information available, the person named is recorded as having 8.44 hectares, entitling him to £756.39 under the 1996 cattle headage scheme which would give a true overpayment of £23.06. The person named is now due a refund of £156.84 which will be paid to him within the next two weeks.
