The matter of how the bicentenary of the 1798 rebellion might best be commemorated is under consideration by my Department in consultation with the Department of the Taoiseach and the Department of Foreign Affairs.
The Defence Forces will support, where feasible, requests for military participation in individual bicentenary commemoration events, including those planned for Ballinamuck, County Longford.
