Question:

128 Mr. Sargent asked the Minister for Defence the number of nominations that can be made, through his Department, to the boards of semi-State bodies and other Government agencies; the current holders of these nominations; and the terms of office they are currently serving. [22925/97]

There are 16 persons nominated by Government to the Central Council of the Irish Red Cross Society. Those appointed to the council for the period 1 May 1977 to 30 April 2000 are listed as follows:

Each director holds office for a period of five years unless he/she is removed from office or retires in accordance with the provisions of the Articles of Coiste an Asgard.
The Army Pensions Board consists of three persons who are appointed by the Minister. One is an officer of the Army Medical Corps. The other two are a chairman and an ordinary member who must be a general practitioner. The current Chairman is Mr. Edward J. Coffey. The ordinary member appointment (general practitioner) is vacant at present. There is no defined term of office for these appointments.
