Vol. 485 No. 2

Written Answers. - Hospital Services.

Michael Creed

Question:

224 Mr. Creed asked the Minister for Health and Children if he will make additional funding available for the provision of additional services at Mallow Hospital, County Cork. [22980/97]

The provision of health services at Mallow General Hospital and the determination of priorities for the development of the hospital are matters for the Southern Health Board in the first instance.

In this context, in response to the board's priorities, my Department has in recent years provided significant additional capital funding for the development of out-patient, laboratory and physiotherapy facilities as well as the upgrading of the in-patient accommodation and lift in the hospital. My Department is liaising with the Southern Health Board to ensure that the hospital continues to play a full and effective role in the provision of healthcare to the population of its catchment area.
