374 Mr. R. Bruton asked the Minister for Education and Science the number of teachers who have had in-service training in the past five years at primary and secondary level; and the classification of teachers into bands demonstrating the varying amount of hours of in-service training undertaken. [23049/97]
I propose to take Questions Nos. 365 and 374 together.
The number of participant contact hours for 1995 and 1996 are given in the following table broken down by major subject-programme area. Similar information for 1997 is not yet available but will be in due course.
As I indicated recently in a reply which I gave to a question in the same area, lists of rolls — and individual hours of attendance — from inservice courses are not stored on a Department database; information which might be extracted or compiled from such data, as requested by the Deputy, is regrettably not available.
