Vol. 485 No. 2

Written Answers. - Road Traffic Accidents.

Willie Penrose

Question:

36 Mr. Penrose asked the Minister for Public Enterprise if the tachograph on a lorry involved in an accident (details supplied) on the N4 on 5 November 1997 was examined by her Department's inspectors; if so, the result of that examination; the action, if any, taken in this regard; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [22777/97]

All investigations into traffic accidents, including the examination of tachograph charts, are carried out by the Garda Síochána.

The Garda authorities have confirmed that they secured the tachograph charts for both the lorry and the coach involved in the accident for further expert analysis. Transport officers from my Department did not examine tachograph charts relating to the accident in question.
