Vol. 485 No. 2

Written Answers. - Pension Provisions.

Ivor Callely

Question:

41 Mr. Callely asked the Minister for Public Enterprise the pension provisions, if any, in place for Bord Gáis Éireann employees; if she will outline the fund in this scheme and the moneys used to build up this pension fund; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [22758/97]

Following the acquisition of the share capital and assets of a number of regional gas companies, Bord Gáis Éireann now sponsors seven different pension schemes. Benefit structures are standardised to the extent that all new employees are provided with similar pension scheme benefits in line with other public service sector pension schemes irrespective of which area of the organisation they join.

The contributions to the funds are paid by the employer and the employees with the exception of one of the old Cork gas schemes which is a non-contributory scheme for members. The day to day management of the pension funds is a matter for the trustees.
