Vol. 485 No. 4

Written Answers. - Fire Stations.

John Perry

Question:

158 Mr. Perry asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government if his attention has been drawn to the totally inadequate substandard facility which currently exists at the fire station in Tubbercurry, County Sligo; if he will allocate the necessary funds to guarantee the level of service which is required to ensure safety in the south Sligo region; the reason for the delay in processing the application; when the funding will be allocated; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [23561/97]

The provision of suitable facilities for its brigades is the responsibility of the fire authority. Contract documents and a cost plan for a new fire station in Tubbercurry were submitted by Sligo County Council on 11 November 1997. Having regard to the capital available and the current level of demand under the fire services capital programme, I cannot say at this stage when the project may be allowed to go to tender stage.
