Vol. 485 No. 4

Employment Rights Protection Bill, 1997: First Stage.

I move:

That leave be granted to introduce a Bill entitled an Act to amend the Protection of Employment Act, 1977, and the European Communities (Safeguarding of Employees' Rights on Transfer of Undertakings) Regulations, 1980, and to give full effect to Council Directive 75/129/EEC of 17 February 1975, Council Directive 92/56/EEC of 24 June 1992, and Council Directive 77/187/EEC of 14 February 1977, and to provide for related matters.

Is the Bill being opposed?

Question put and agreed to.

Since this is a Private Members' Bill Second Stage must, under Standing Orders, be taken in Private Members' time. Deputy Broughan should, therefore, move that the Second Stage be taken in Private Members' time.
