Vol. 485 No. 4

Written Answers. - Cheese Production.

Brian O'Shea

Question:

58 Mr. O'Shea asked the Minister for Agriculture and Food if he will pursue, as a matter of urgency, the development of the production of new types of cheese at the Avonmore and Waterford plant at Kilmeadan, County Waterford in order to maintain employment at the plant; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [23319/97]

The future operation of the Kilmeadan plant owned by the Avonmore Waterford Group is a commercial matter for the management of the group. The development and production of cheese types and the location of such production must remain a decision for the group.

As I have stated before, I would of course be prepared to have dealings with interested groups involved where this would be appropriate and helpful.
