Vol. 486 No. 1

Written Answers. - Fisheries Operational Programme.

Michael Finucane

Question:

246 Mr. Finucane asked the Minister for the Marine and Natural Resources the amount which has been allocated in the operational programme for fishery harbour development; the amount which has been expended up to the end of 1997; the balance remaining in this regard; if there is sufficient finance available to fund future fishery harbour developments; if not, if he will apportion extra resources to this programme; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [1508/98]

Some £9.3 million has been allocated under the Operational Programme for Fisheries, 1994-99, for the development of port infrastructure and facilities. Up to the end of 1997, approximately £7.3 million has been invested in development works at some 28 harbours. While significant progress has been made in improving port facilities and infrastructure, a considerable work programme is still required. I am, therefore, pursuing the question of funding for this programme.
