Vol. 486 No. 1

Written Answers. - Fuel Additives.

John Gormley

Question:

336 Mr. Gormley asked the Minister for Public Enterprise the investigations, if any, which have been undertaken by her Department in relation to the possible beneficial aspects of the fuel additive product Soltron. [2185/98]

Representations were made by Soltron/Solpower, the company promoting the use of the product Soltron, to my Department in late 1997. The claims made in respect of the product were not accompanied by test results from a recognised and accredited test laboratory.

My Department does not have a statutory function in relation to the technical validation of such products or the certification of claims made for them.
The addition of additives to oil-based fuel products is a technical and commercial matter for the companies in the marketplace and it was suggested to the promoter of Soltron that this avenue be pursued.
