Vol. 486 No. 1

Written Answers. - Army Ration Charges.

Róisín Shortall

Question:

356 Ms Shortall asked the Minister for Defence the current charges in respect of rations on repayment; the relationship the charges have to cost of purchase; when the charges were last amended and the result, if any, in this regard; and whether rations on repayment refer to consumption on or off barrack site. [1285/98]

The current charge in respect of rations on repayment is £3 a day. The charge is based on the cost of purchase £2.16 and overhead recovery of £0.84p.

The charge was most recently increased in June 1994 and is at present under review. Rations are normally consumed in barracks but in certain circumstances they may be provided outside barracks.
