Vol. 486 No. 1

Written Answers. - Department of Defence Audits.

Brendan Howlin

Question:

374 Mr. Howlin asked the Minister for Defence the units or formations subject to financial and stock audits by his Department since 1996; and the outcome of these financial and stock audits. [1327/98]

The Internal Audit Unit of the Department of Defence may audit any area of activity involving public funds within the remit of the Department. In 1996, a total of 81 audits of a financial and stock audit nature were carried out in various military barracks posts. In 1997, 77 such audits were carried out and it is planned to audit approximately 100 such accounts in 1998.

A written report is produced in respect of each audit undertaken and is sent to the management of the function-location which was the subject of the audit in order that appropriate follow-up action, where necessary, may be taken in relation to any issues highlighted by the audit.
