Vol. 486 No. 1

Written Answers. - Directives Implementation.

Ruairí Quinn

Question:

537 Mr. Quinn asked the Minister for Health and Children the EC, ECSC or EURATOM directives wholly or partly under the auspices of his Department that are not fully implemented; the subject, date and reference number of each; the date on which implementation is or was due; the proposed mode of implementation, that is, a Bill or a statutory instrument; when it is proposed to implement the directive in each case; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [1068/98]

The information requested by the Deputy is set out in the following table. It should be noted that the delay in implementing Council Directive 93/43/EEC of 14 June 1993 and Directive 93/43/EEC on the hygiene of foodstuffs, was due to a long running industrial dispute involving environmental health officers employed by health boards. This dispute was resolved in late 1997 and arrangements are now being made to have these directives transposed as a matter of priority.
