Vol. 486 No. 1

Written Answers. - Grant Aid.

Gay Mitchell

Question:

633 Mr. G. Mitchell asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government if a person (details supplied) is entitled to assistance to have central heating installed; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [1266/98]

There are no grants available from my Department for installing central heating in a house.

A local authority may make a grant under the disabled persons grants scheme for necessary adaptation works to a house to render it more suitable for accommodation of a disabled person. It is a matter in individual cases for local authorities to determine eligibility for a grant and the type of works for which a grant may be given. Central heating may be included as part of such adaptation works and, in circumstances where a proposed central heating system extends beyond the accommodation for the disabled person, an apportionment of the cost is made.
