Question:

666 Mr. Ring asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government the number of houses which were provided by his Department for each of the years 1996 and 1997 to each local authority on a county by county basis; and the number it is hoped to provide in 1998 on a county by county basis. [1818/98]

Statements showing the number of housing "starts" authorised for each local authority for the years 1996, 1997 and 1998 are available in the Oireachtas Library.

Question:

668 Mr. Ring asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government the number of houses that were allocated in County Mayo for each of the years from 1995 to 1997 by Mayo County Council, Westport UDC, Ballina UDC and Castlebar UDC; the number of houses which were built new or purchased; the number of houses in total which are occupied by tenants; and the number which will be made available to each of the authorities for 1998 in this regard. [1834/98]

Details of the numbers of tenancies allocated by local authorities in County Mayo in 1995 and 1996 (provisional) are published in the Department's Annual Housing Statistics Bulletin for 1996 which is available in the Oireachtas Library. The final figures for 1996 and provisional figures for 1997 will be included in the 1997 Bulletin which will be published next March.

Details of the number of tenancies allocated in newly built houses and in purchased houses are not available in my Department.

Details of the numbers of houses occupied by tenants at the end of December 1995 are published in the Bulletin for 1996; the details at the end of December 1996 will be published in the Bulletin for 1997.

A statement showing the number of housing "starts" authorised for each local authority, including those in County Mayo, for 1998 is available in the Oireachtas Library.
