Thomas P. Broughan

Question:

706 Mr. Broughan asked the Minister for Social, Community and Family Affairs if he will report on and list the details of all community development and national lottery grants to community groups in the Dublin North East constituency since he became Minister. [2201/98]

It is proposed to take Questions Nos. 692 and 706 together.

My Department provides funding to community and voluntary organisations under a range of schemes and programmes. Some, but not all, of the groups and organisations that have been funded are recognised as charities by the Revenue Commissioners. The Department provides these supports in recognition of the important role that voluntary groups have in improving the quality of people's lives; supporting family life and parenting; facilitating local communities address problems facing them; seeking ways to break the poverty cycle and generally developing their community. Details of all grants paid in the years 1990 to 1996 are available in the Oireachtas Library for the information of Members. Details of all grants paid in 1997 including those in the Dublin North area are currently being compiled and will shortly be made available in the Oireachtas Library.
