Vol. 486 No. 1

Written Answers. - Charitable Donations.

Question:

837 Dr. Upton asked the Minister for Education and Science if he will give details of moneys given by his Department to charities for each of the years from 1990 to date; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [1244/98]

My Department has not made any charitable donations in the period 1990 to date. However, my Department regularly makes payments to educational, cultural, and youth organisations and, prior to the transfer of the sport function on 12 July 1997, sport organisations, many of which have charitable status. These payments relate to activities which are carried out by the organisations. They are not payments to charities in the way that this expression is normally used.
