Vol. 486 No. 1

Written Answers. - Institutes of Technology.

Brian O'Shea

Question:

906 Mr. O'Shea asked the Minister for Education and Science the amount allocated for capital purposes to Waterford Institute of Technology and Cork Institute of Technology for 1998 and for the ten year period commencing 1998; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [1711/98]

Provision has been made in the 1998 Estimates for capital contractual commitments amounting to around £800,000 and £2.5 million for Waterford Institute of Technology (WIT) and Cork Institute of Technology (CIT) respectively. In addition I recently gave the go-ahead for the planning of further major projects estimated to cost in excess of £12 million at WIT and £10 million at CIT. Campus development plans are at present being prepared by both institutes and when these have been completed and examined by my Department I will be then in a position to quantify the additional resources which will need to be allocated to each institute in respect of their proposed ten year programmes.
