911 Mr. Gregory asked the Minister for Education and Science if he will review the decision to refuse higher education grant aid for a course (details supplied) in view of the small number of full-time students participating in this course and the critical need for qualified personnel in this course and the critical need for qualified personnel in this field. Minister for Education and Science (Mr. Martin):

Under the terms of the higher education grants scheme, grants are payable in respect of eligible students, who are attending full-time undergratuate courses, which must generally be of at least two years duration, at approved third level institutions.

As the course in question is a one year course it is not an approved course for the purposes of the scheme.
