Vol. 486 No. 1

Written Answers. - Higher Education Grants.

Tony Gregory

Question:

911 Mr. Gregory asked the Minister for Education and Science if he will review the decision to refuse higher education grant aid for a course (details supplied) in view of the small number of full-time students participating in this course and the critical need for qualified personnel in this course and the critical need for qualified personnel in this field. [1764/98]

Under the terms of the higher education grants scheme, grants are payable in respect of eligible students, who are attending full-time undergratuate courses, which must generally be of at least two years duration, at approved third level institutions.

As the course in question is a one year course it is not an approved course for the purposes of the scheme.
